I understand that if I have signed up for protection, when I die the tjänstepension will be passed on to my wife. What happens if she dies shortly thereafter? Will it pass on to our two children?

Thats a good question. I would think so but that’s a guess.

Might also be good to check your kollektivavtal where tjänstepension has been negotiated. There could be differences between the different kollektivavtal. Best is to check that with your Valcentral. If you don’t know which that is for you, check with your union rep or HR at your employer.

Also note it is the payments from tjänstepension and not a lump sum that gets passed on in most cases. In such cases the payments gets taxed as income if the recipient has not yet retired.

Usually you can pick specific persons that receive the pension if you die.
If no one has been actively chosen it is usually (but maybe not always) distributed in a standard order, for example spouse / sambo / registered partner first and the children second.
You should contact your pension provider and ask how it is handled by them since it may vary a bit between different pension providers and solutions.
